How Predators Select Victims | 80:20 Conflict Management Strategies

May 12, 2023

Understand the methods predators use to target victims so you can protect yourself and stay safe. Learn how martial arts, self defense and understanding the aftermath of violence are important tools in preventing attack.

In a perfect world, we would never have to worry about the safety of ourselves or loved ones. Unfortunately, the reality is quite different. Predators are always lurking, waiting for their next victim. But how do they select their victims? This is a question we all need to ask ourselves if we want to avoid becoming a target. In this article, we will discuss the tactics that predators use to select their prey, and what you can do to protect yourself.

1. Body Language

Predators look for people who appear shy or unsure of themselves. They focus on body language cues such as posture, lack of eye contact, and nervous movements. If you look like an easy target, then you are more likely to be chosen.

2. Vulnerabilities

Predators often target individuals who appear vulnerable or have certain vulnerabilities. This can include poor mental or physical health, a history of abuse, or someone who is going through a tough time emotionally. You can protect yourself by being aware of your vulnerabilities and working to overcome them.

3. Age and Gender

Predators may select victims based on age and gender. They tend to target vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children and teens, and women. It is important to educate yourself and your loved ones about the risks of becoming a victim and to take precautions to stay safe.

4. Location

Predators often choose locations where victims are unable to ask for help or escape. This can include isolated areas, parking garages and alleyways. Be cautious when you are in an unfamiliar area, and try to stay in populated areas when possible.

5. Social Media

Predators also use social media to prey on victims. They utilize tactics such as catfishing, which is when they create a fake online profile to gain the trust of potential victims. They may also use social media to study their intended victims to learn about their routines and vulnerabilities. Be aware of who you are communicating with on social media, and limit the information you share.

Predators use multiple methods to select their victims. They use body language cues, vulnerabilities, age and gender, location, and social media to identify targets. However, by understanding how predators select their victims, you can take steps to avoid becoming a victim. Always be aware of your surroundings, and make an effort to improve your body language and self-confidence. Additionally, utilize tools like social media wisely, and be cautious of who you allow into your personal life.
